Tutorial Programme
The Burlington School prides itself on offering a student-centred tutorial programme which has been created to help students with both their academic and personal lives. This programme includes both academic and personal advising sessions, as well as the Burlington Book Club.
Academic Advising:
Twice a week, the school offers a free and confidential academic advising service. Students can sign up for an advising session at the office and can meet with the Academic Advisor to discuss issues such as learning/classroom problems, entering higher education in the UK as well as visa/immigration issues. In 2012, we will schedule monthly sessions on specific areas and advertise these around the school. Topics will include note taking, vocabulary learning, grammar etc.
Book Club:
The Burlington Book Club has been an exciting addition to the school. Each week, the group meets to discuss a reading selection. There are two levels. One is for students up to an intermediate level and the other is for students at an upper-intermediate level and above. Students receive advice on reading techniques, vocabulary learning, fluency and writing help. This course is free for all students, but a deposit for books is charged.
Teacher Guided Tutorials:
During testing weeks, teachers meet with each student to discuss the areas in which the students are excelling or struggling. The teacher then gives the students tips and tricks to help them succeed in improving their English.
Self-Access Tutorials:
At least once a term, the Academic Manager takes a class to the self-access centre to show students how to use it and to explain the rules of use.
Career Advice:
Students who wish to receive advice on seeking employment in the UK can schedule an appointment with the Academic Manager, and they will receive guidance on CV writing and job hunting.
